Lessons Learned So Far

I am happy to report that we are three days into our road trip and no homicide has occurred, yet. Some parts of our trip are in areas we have not seen before. The scenery has been stunning and that certainly helps to pass the time.
Here are a few lessons I have learned so far.

Seize the moment. This is one of only two rest stops we saw for many, many miles and one of those two rest stops was closed. The old adage from your mother, "Go whether you think you have to or not" is wise advice when it comes to rest stops. This stop was particularly beautiful and was at South Pass, a place used by Native Americans and wagon trains to get through a mountainous area. I am happy to be in a car and not a creaky, leaky covered wagon.

Nothing says "Aahhh....." like a large suite in a nice hotel. I think I knew when I booked our trip that we were going to need a big room with extra space after the third day of driving. What I didn't know is how desperately it would be needed after a GPS incident (my fault) that happened just five miles from our destination. Needless to say, we saw a little extra "scenery" before getting things straightened out. It also goes without saying, Lewis and Clark would have sent me packing with my satchel and a lame horse if I would have been hired on with their crew. I am not a skilled navigator.

Morning views are the best. This is a view from my walk in Pocatello, Idaho. New sights make my walks go a little faster.

Sometimes signs say it all.
