Load. Drive. Eat Sandwiches. Unload. Repeat. That is the drill as we grind our way homeward. As the road miles tick by we often see signs for historical sites or scenic views and we comment that someday we might have to take the time to stop at some of them. For now, we are focused on getting the road travel finished.

There was one sign, however, that was too tempting to ignore. We tried to put it out of our minds but the allure was too great, especially since the attraction was only five minutes from our hotel. Before hitting the road again we made our way to the museum of all museums, The Idaho Potato Museum. Bring on the spuds!

We were greeted by a giant baked potato and you know they know their stuff when it is heaped with sour cream and a pat of butter. These are my people.

This is the actual potato crisp (think Pringles) that won a place in the Guiness World Book of Records. It has a few cracks at the base but it is in relatively good shape for being thirty years old. Gotta love the folks who took on that challenge.

A cellar door can be opened and a tater family of animatrons lights up and starts explaining how and why potatoes are stored in cool dark places. They were an entertaining trio and gave us a giggle or two. Value added spuds.

Of course, all good museums have a gift shop and, of course, I felt compelled to purchase a little something. The best part was the sack they used to bag my purchase. A worthy choice, for sure.

Next time, we will have to call ahead and order a baked potato from their cafe. I can only imagine how good a fluffy russet topped with sour cream and butter by the experts would taste. Move over sandwiches, bring on the spuds!
